Marilyn Hudson

Marilyn Hudson's art combines music and sculpture, frequently in the same
piece, installation or composition. In a broad sense, her sculpture and musical
works employ a direct response to basic form with extraneous material pared
away. Important influences include Henry Moore, John Cage, Harry Partch,
Marcel Duchamp, Ellen Fullman, Trimpin and Maya Lin.

Marilyn discovered gourds while using them in musical instrument
experimentation. "I was delighted to find that gourds are a wonderful natural medium for
sculpture, strong, yet easy to process and manipulate, with many attractive
characteristics. They present fewer sculptural limitations than one would
imagine."

She holds BA Degrees in Sculpture and Art History and an MA in Music Theory
and Composition.

You may visit the artist in her Hayward Studio, by appointment.
